Packing Comfort with Purpose: Supporting UCLA’s Esophageal Health Patients

At Orange Aluminum, we've always believed that showing care isn't just about writing a check, it's about taking action.
This past quarter, our OrangeCares initiative is focused on supporting the UCLA Robert G. Kardashian Center for Esophageal Health, a cause that hit home for our team. Nominated by our Purchasing Manager, Vanessa, this organization was chosen in memory of her grandfather, who passed from esophageal cancer. That story moved us. It reminded us that when serious illness strikes, the smallest gestures can mean the most.
The Kardashian Center is one of the few institutions in the country solely dedicated to advancing care, research, and education around esophageal diseases; including esophageal cancer, reflux, and swallowing disorders.
Based at UCLA Health, the Center brings together leading physicians, researchers, and support staff to provide highly specialized, patient-centered care. Their mission is not just clinical excellence, but also compassion, helping patients and families navigate some of the most difficult diagnoses with clarity, dignity, and hope.
For us, supporting the Kardashian Center reflects the kind of impact we strive for. It’s rooted in care, driven by purpose, and shaped by the values we stand behind. It’s a chance to be resourceful with what we have, agile in how we act, and dependable in how we follow through. Most of all, it reminds us that growth isn’t just about business. It’s also about how we show up for others.
Packing Kits with Heart
Before making our formal donation, we wanted to take action in a more immediate and personal way. Something that could offer comfort to patients right now, while the work of the Kardashian Center continues every day.
So our team assembled and delivered creative activity kits for patients. Each one included coloring books, crayons and pencils, journals, puzzles, card and board games, and a little note of encouragement.
These kits were created to bring a moment of calm, creativity, and comfort. A small reminder that someone is thinking of you. Because care goes beyond medicine. It lives in the thoughtful details that help people feel seen and supported.
Built by the Team, For the Community
This wasn’t a company assignment. It was a collective effort powered by the people who show up every day with care in mind. From sourcing supplies to hand-packing every kit, the team brought their own ideas, energy, and empathy.
It was simple, but intentional. We focused on what might bring comfort, a way to pass the time, spark creativity, or just feel a little more human during a difficult moment. This was about more than just the kits. It was about honoring the memory that inspired this quarter’s cause, and quietly standing with other families who know how hard this journey can be.
What’s Next
As we move into Q3, we’ll continue looking for ways to turn business as usual into something more meaningful. That includes inviting our team to nominate the next cause we support, because the best ideas come from the people closest to them.
