Orange Cares Supports Watch Duty

When the Palisades and Eaton fires devastated communities across Los Angeles County in early 2025, the impact felt close to home for the Orange Aluminum team. Families, businesses, and neighborhoods throughout our region faced disruption, loss, and uncertainty.

For our Q1 2025 charity initiative, Orange Aluminum selected Watch Duty, a nonprofit that provides timely wildfire information and alerts. Through Orange Cares, we chose to support a resource that helps people stay informed when conditions can change quickly.

This selection reflected the purpose of our giving program: connecting our team with causes that matter to the communities where we live and work. Explore Orange Cares and the organizations we support.

Why We Chose Watch Duty

During a wildfire, knowing where to find reliable information matters. Watch Duty is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides wildfire maps, incident updates, and notifications to help people follow nearby fire activity.

Its service brings together technology and reporting from a network that includes firefighters, dispatchers, and other experienced contributors. For communities facing wildfire risks, access to timely updates can help people understand changing conditions.

Supporting Watch Duty gave Orange Aluminum an opportunity to contribute to that work and raise awareness of a resource relevant to our region.

A Cause With a Personal Connection

Orange Aluminum Territory Manager Lana Howell spearheaded the initiative after witnessing the fires’ impact firsthand. Her recommendation brought a local concern into our quarterly giving program and highlighted the importance of accessible wildfire information.

That personal connection is central to Orange Cares. Our employees help identify organizations whose missions resonate with their experiences and the needs they see around them.

For this initiative, the connection was clear: our team wanted to support a nonprofit working to keep communities informed about wildfire activity.

What Our Q1 Support Aimed to Help Make Possible

Our Q1 2025 initiative focused on supporting Watch Duty’s mission and its efforts to make wildfire information more widely available.

Through the initiative, we aimed to:

  • Support Watch Duty’s efforts to expand access to wildfire alerts.

  • Raise awareness of its nonprofit mission and services.

  • Encourage customers, partners, and employees to learn about wildfire preparedness resources.

Quarter-end update: Orange Aluminum donated $4,222 to Watch Duty through the Q1 2025 Orange Cares initiative. Read the Q1 donation recap and learn more about our contribution.
