Choosing a Track
What is a hanging door track?
A hanging door track mounts overhead to the header or ceiling, and the door hangs from rollers that ride inside it. Because the door is carried from above, there is no floor track to trip on or clean, which suits closets, room dividers, and office partitions.
Which hanging door track do I need?
Count the doors. For one sliding door, use the Single Door Track. For two bypass doors that slide past each other, use the Double Door Track. For an enclosed track that hides the hardware, or for bifold panels, use the Closed Door Track with the Closed Top Plate.
Is a hanging door track the same as a barn door track?
No. Barn door hardware mounts on the face of the wall with exposed rollers above the door. A hanging door track mounts overhead to the header or ceiling, and the hangers ride inside the track.
Can I use these tracks for bifold doors?
Yes, with the Closed Door Track and the Closed Top Plate. The top plate is rated for bifold doors up to 50 lb per panel and multi-fold doors up to 30 lb per panel, with up to six panels folding one way. Hinges and pivot hardware are not included.
Hangers and Installation
Which hanger goes with each track?
The Single Apron Hanger (DTA-SA) fits the Single Door Track and the Double Door Track. The Closed Top Plate (DTA-CTP) fits the Closed Door Track.
How much weight can the hangers carry?
The Single Apron Hanger is rated for doors up to 100 lb. The Closed Top Plate is rated for bifold doors up to 50 lb per panel and multi-fold doors up to 30 lb per panel.
What thickness door do the tracks fit?
All three tracks are sized for 3/4" doors and panels.
Can I adjust the door height after it is hung?
Yes, on the Single Apron Hanger. Its threaded post raises or lowers the door about 1/8" in either direction, and a lock nut holds the setting.
Should I order pre-drilled track or track with no holes?
Pre-drilled track comes with mounting holes, so it is ready to fasten up. Track with no holes lets you drill where your header or ceiling framing is.
Cutting and Ordering
Can I cut a hanging door track to length?
Yes. Cut with a miter saw and a carbide-tipped blade rated for non-ferrous metal, then deburr the cut edge. Wear eye protection.
What lengths and finishes are available?
Each track comes in 48", 96", and 144" lengths in a mill finish, pre-drilled or with no holes.
