Do these rails work with Pendaflex hanging folders?
Yes. The rails fit standard letter and legal hanging file folders, including Pendaflex folders. Each folder hooks over two parallel rails.
What are hanging file rails?
Hanging file rails are the bars that hanging folders hook over inside a drawer. Each folder rests on two parallel rails and slides along them.
What parts do I need for a hanging file drawer?
Three parts: a mount on two opposite drawer panels (the File Rail Press Cap or File Rail Mount Angle), File Rail Clips, and File Rail Flat Bars. The clips sit on the mount and hold each rail end.
Should I use the press cap or the mount angle?
The press cap presses onto the top edge of a 1/2" drawer or cabinet panel with no drilling. The mount angle screws to the inside face of the panel instead.
Do these rails work in wood drawers and desks?
Yes. The system is made for desks, custom cabinetry, and storage drawers, including wood drawers.
Drawer Layouts
What is the difference between letter and legal hanging files?
Letter folders hold 8-1/2" x 11" paper and legal folders hold 8-1/2" x 14", so legal folders are wider and need the rails set farther apart.
Can one drawer hold both letter and legal files?
Yes. Add clips to set rails in both directions, with one section of front-facing files and one of side-facing files. The layouts above show common combinations.
What does front-to-back filing mean?
Front-to-back rails run from the front of the drawer to the back, so folders face the front. Side-to-side rails run across the drawer, so folders face the side.
Do these rails work in lateral file drawers?
Yes. Lateral drawers usually hold letter files facing the side, or a mix of letter and legal sections.
Cutting, Finishes, and Ordering
How do you cut aluminum file rails?
Use a miter saw with a carbide-tipped blade rated for non-ferrous metal, cut slowly, and deburr the cut edge. Wear eye protection.
What lengths are available?
The 1/2" rail and the mount angle come in 72", 96", and 144". The 3/4" rail comes in 96" and 144". The press cap comes in 48", 96", and 144". Clips come 10 per pack.
What finishes are available?
Rails and the mount angle come in mill finish, clear anodized, or black anodized. The press cap comes in mill finish or clear anodized. Clips are black.
