OrangeCares Q3: Supporting Families Affected by HIV with Being Alive
At Orange Aluminum, community impact isn't an afterthought, it's built into the way we operate. Each quarter through our OrangeCares initiative, we support a cause that resonates with our team, our customers, and the values we live by: being dependable, resourceful, and showing we care through our actions.
For Q3, we're proud to support Being Alive, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit dedicated to the wellness, mental health, and care of people living with HIV and AIDS.
This quarter's organization was nominated by our Sales Assistant, Juan Medrano, whose personal connection shaped our team's choice.
“I chose this charity for a personal reason. Recently, a friend of mine was diagnosed with HIV. While there is no cure for HIV, there are many effective ways to prevent transmission and manage it so the virus doesn't progress or spread. With proper treatment, people living with HIV can live long, healthy lives. HIV does not discriminate — it can affect anyone if proper precautions aren't taken.” — Juan Medrano, Sales Assistant
Why Being Alive?
Founded in 1986 by four friends living with HIV/AIDS, Being Alive was built on a simple idea: support for the community should come from the community it serves, free of red tape and judgment. Nearly 40 years later, it's grown into one of Los Angeles's most trusted HIV wellness organizations, offering no-cost programs in emotional support, treatment education, prevention, advocacy, and long-term mental health therapy to thousands of client-members.

It's a philosophy that mirrors what Juan shared with us: that awareness, proper precautions, and access to care are what allow people living with HIV to thrive — and that this can touch anyone's life, including the people we work alongside every day.
