Quality Assurance Guidelines: The 6 Ft Rule for Visual Inspection in Aluminum Extrusions

Introduction: Orange Aluminum Company is dedicated to delivering top-quality aluminum extrusion products. To maintain consistent quality, we adhere to industry best practices and rigorous quality control measures.

Purpose: This document clarifies the "6 Ft Rule" for assessing visual imperfections in aluminum extrusions, serving as a reference for evaluating surface defects.

Understanding the 6 Ft Rule: Widely recognized within the industry, the "6 Ft Rule" specifies that visual inspection should occur from a standard distance of six feet under normal lighting conditions, as per ASTM B221-14. Imperfections not visible from this distance and not affecting appearance or functionality are deemed acceptable.

Application: Our quality control personnel use the 6 Ft Rule as a benchmark during aluminum extrusion inspection. Imperfections not visible from six feet are deemed acceptable without further action.
